Let’s Play BounceBack: 02/27/18 – Occupational Hazard

According to a recent McKinsey Global Institute report, “Our scenarios suggest that half of today’s work activities could be automated by 2055, but this could happen up to 20 years earlier or later depending on various factors, in addition to other economic conditions.” We’re already seeing signs of disappearing tasks once completed by human hands. The fact of the matter is that machines and ‘bots’ can do some things faster, more efficiently and more consistently than we can. As much as this may sting our egos, to remain resilient we must take a long and serious look at our future role in the workforce.

Life is full of twists, turns, and shifts. Work is no less subject to these patterns than our everyday lives. Nothing lasts forever. We must understand this and learn to think optimistically and in different ways in order to respond with resilience to the impact that automation brings.

This deck was created to encourage thought and discussion regarding our changing menu of occupations. Share it with your children to get them thinking about vocational choices. Use it with students to practice applying the Skills & Attitudes of resilience in order to problem solve and get them thinking about building a resilient workforce. Use them in your place of business to introduce automation and provide employees with the skills and attitudes to manage the emotional and financial impact of automation. Play a game with friends to stimulate creative discussion.

Purchase BounceBack

BounceBack will be available for purchase via our website soon. We’d like to introduce you to BounceBack by playing a bi-weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays) game on our homepage using our free Downloadable Demonstration Deck.

Your Challenge Card from our Downloadable Demonstration Deck is featured above. Once you’ve dealt with the challenge, magnify your screen and take a close look at the bottom of the card. There you will see the Skills & Attitudes we feel might be most helpful in managing the scenario. You can also use other skills and attitudes that you find helpful as long as you can explain how you would apply them.  We challenge you to find new ways of responding to adversity.

Which of these Skills & Attitudes will you choose to apply?

Follow along alone, with a friend or a group. Talk to others and find out how they would respond. We can learn much from one another. But if we wish to learn from our experiences, we must first get through them.

Please feel free to contact us with your feedback.
