International Coaching Week is an annual global event sponsored by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). It was started in 1999 by an ICF Member Jerri N. Udelson, MCC. The purpose of this week is to educate the public about the value of coaching and how it works. We’d like to share some thoughts on this.
If you are to be resilient or to be hopeful, you must set clear and achievable goals. These are often referred to as S.M.A.R.T. goals. The first letter, S, stands for specific. We know exactly what we would like to do. If we have a health issue, such as decreasing our level of cholesterol, we want to be able to set a specific goal. In other words, we want to make that goal measurable, which is the second component of a S.M.A.R.T. goal. We need to set a specific figure. We would like to get our cholesterol down to 140, for example, so we will know whether we have achieved that goal or we haven’t. Continue reading “S.M.A.R.T. Goals – Vital to Resiliency”
Building Resilience…Survival Skills for the 21st. Century was conceived by Ron Breazeale, Ph.D., in order to promote and facilitate the acquisition of resilience skills and attitudes among individuals and groups of diverse origin and a wide array of vocations, with a need to survive the tragedy and adversity that befalls each of us at one time or another. To that end, he gathered a team of professional colleagues, interns, friends and volunteers willing to help pursue the goal. Building Resilience is an outgrowth of Maine Resilience and its ambitions. Maine Resilience is a non-profit agency started in January of 2007. Building and sustaining the resilience of all Maine citizens its goal. Dr. Ron Breazeale and Alpha One worked together to form Maine Resilience and to create materials used to teach resilience through storytelling. Building Resilience has partnered with others over the years in order to facilitate an increase in resilience skills. We have provided more than sixty workshops with diverse groups including individuals with disabilities, first responders and educators since 2007.

Will I repeat the patterns of my predecessors as if biologically determined? What if I fall down and can’t get up? Continue reading “Age and Resilience”
The Conflict Between Hope and Cynicism Continues.
“First Night: The Conflict Between Hope and Cynicism’ resumes the story of Lee Brazil whose reemergence encounters a future world assimilating change, mystery and a cascade of new characters, encountered from the past, that lead the reader into a story that cannot be put down. Walk with Lee as he encounters a world changing in ways not earlier conceived, a kaleidoscope of sensation, trepidation, hope, and adrenalin rush. ~ Richard Lumb, criminologist and contributing author of The Police Journal “First Night”
